This guide is excellent. It learned me the most needed basics of deployment using capistrano. Later I have used this guide as reference.

Thanks so much for this tutorial it helped me out tremendously with deploying my first rails app!

The only two things I could find wrong with your work for me anyway were:

1. ‘apt-get install git’ does not work any longer. I believe that ‘apt-get install git-core’ will install all of the necessary things for git to work however.

2. ’set :scm_command, “/usr/bin/git”‘ . I had to comment this out in my deploy.rb file. I believe it is because my local machine is Mac OS X and I am using Macports to install git and it is installed to /opt. Here is the error I was getting before i commented the line out:

Command /usr/bin/git ls-remote git@github.com:dbaugh/score_master.git master returned status code 32512

Anyway, thanks again! I can confirm this working on Ubuntu 10.04 on SliceHost.
